10% of the U.S. women have polycystic ovary syndrome. It usually has an impact on women in their 20-30’s but can occur in girls as young as 11 years old.

The cause of PCOS is several – genetic, and environmental factors can contribute to this syndrome.

A main factor of PCOS is a hormonal imbalance. Due to the imbalance of hormones, women with PCOS, their bodies usually make more male hormones (androgens) than normal. These high levels of male hormones have a negative affect the phase of the the eggs during ovulation.
